Most SEO case studies wait until the rankings move, then dress the results up after the fact. This one is published the day the foundation work went live. The numbers come in 4 to 8 weeks. The work is here now.

Mr Unlocks is a 24/7 mobile auto locksmith covering South East London and Kent, from Abbey Wood to Dartford. Owner-operated. Clean 5.0 on Google across 13 reviews. Real business, real demand, but the online setup was quietly capping the phone.

What was holding the phone back

When I started, three structural problems were costing calls before they ever rang:

  • 18 area pages that were duplicates of each other. Each town's page had near-identical copy with the town name swapped. Google penalises that kind of thin, repeated content - the pages compete with each other and none of them rank.
  • Scrambled URL slugs. The Greenwich page lived at /copy-of-greenhithe-da9. The Lewisham content sat at /copy-of-greenwich-se10. Six months of impression history was stuck behind URLs nobody could find or share.
  • An under-built Google Business Profile. Hours not set to 24/7, no services listed, categories incomplete, half the reviews unreplied, no photos.

None of these are exotic problems. They are the standard mess that a busy owner-operator accumulates while doing the actual job. Fixing them is what the first month of a real local SEO engagement looks like.

What I shipped in 30 days

Google Business Profile, fully optimised

Six services added with local keyword descriptions. Hours set to 24/7 (matching the actual business). Categories confirmed and tightened. All 13 reviews replied with personal, on-brand responses. A fresh update post with a Call button published. Photos and video uploaded.

Technical foundation fixed

A LocalBusiness / Locksmith schema built and validated, set to 24/7 with all 45 service areas declared. This is the structured data Google reads to understand who the business is, where it works, and what it does. Rich Results Test passed clean.

On-page across all 28 pages

Keyword-led titles, unique meta descriptions and focus keywords across every page on the site. No template duplication. Each page targets a specific intent.

18 unique town pages

Every area page rewritten with genuinely unique, locally-relevant content. Welling content for Welling. Erith content for Erith. Local references baked in. Each one now earns its own ranking instead of cannibalising the others.

Clean URLs and 301 redirects

Every page moved to a clean address - for example /auto-locksmith-welling instead of /copy-of-greenhithe-da9. Every old URL gets a 301 redirect to the new one, so none of the existing Google history was lost in the move. The page with 137 impressions still points to the same content, just at a sensible URL.

The honest timeline

Local SEO does not switch on overnight. It compounds.

Days to 2 weeks: the Google Business Profile reacts fastest. With photos, videos and active reviews freshly in place, this is where the first extra calls tend to surface.

2 to 6 weeks: Google re-crawls the site and indexes the new pages, new content and clean URLs.

1 to 3 months: the area pages start ranking for local searches. Calls build. The work compounds month on month.

This is the part most agency case studies skip. They show you the "after" three months in, without telling you the timeline. Then prospects expect rankings in week one and the relationship sours by week three when nothing has moved.

I would rather set the expectation honestly upfront. Foundation work is foundation work. The phone lift comes later.

Where Mr Unlocks stands today

5.0Google rating
13reviews, all replied
28pages optimised
18unique area pages

Rank baseline was captured the same day the work went live, in an incognito window with no owner bias, so next month's report will show genuine movement (or lack of it) against a clean line. Today's floor: Welling at #8 organic, the other five towns not yet on page 1, no map-pack presence. That is the starting point, and it is the right starting point for a build that is one day old.

What month 2 looks like

Rank tracking against the May baseline. Fresh content - one new area or service page to widen reach. A review-generation system so new 5-star reviews keep coming in without it being a chase. A monthly report like this one, every month, so the client always sees what they are paying for.

Build the foundation properly, show the receipts, let it compound.

The receipts are coming

In 4 to 8 weeks I will publish the follow-up to this post with the real call numbers, the GBP Insights delta, the search-term shifts. No invented figures, no rounded-up estimates. Subscribe to the email or check back in late June.

If you run a UK service business - trades, clinic, salon, studio, anything local - and you want this kind of local SEO done properly without the agency mark-up, that is what I do. Pricing here, or message me direct at [email protected].

Published 23 May 2026. Mr Unlocks is a real Consent Leads client and gave written permission for this case study. The numbers in the "where we stand today" block are verifiable on Google directly. The results post will follow in 4 to 8 weeks.
